Hey there! I know I haven't posted on my blog for awhile but now I'm back. I wanted to share how to make a bookmark with a tree and sky painted onto any color of cardstock paper. It's easy to make and you can make it any size that you want.
I decided to use purple cardstock paper for mine and the paper represents the color of the sky. If you don't have a colored piece of cardstock paper, you can definitely use white cardstock paper and paint it any color that you want.
You can also design it anyway you would like. For example, you can paint a different shaped tree or you don't have to paint a moon.
Now you can learn how to make it! If you want you can watch the video below where you'll also learn how to make two other bookmarks or you can keep reading on. The tutorial for this bookmark is in the beginning of the video and it starts at about 0:18.
What you'll need:
Cardstock paper
Scissors
Ruler
Pencil
Black and white acrylic paint
Fan paintbrush
Thin paintbrush
Water
Hole puncher
Ribbon
1. Measure and cut out your bookmark out of any color of cardstock paper and that color of paper will be your sky color. I measured my bookmark to be about 2 1/2 x 6 inches.
I also used purple cardstock paper to make a purple sky but if you don't have any colored cardstock paper, you can just paint white cardstock paper any color that you want instead.
3. Place a piece of scrap paper under your bookmark and then you can start painting a tree.
5. When you're done painting the trunk, you want create the leaves by tapping a fan paintbrush near the top of the tree to create a short row. If you want you can tap the paintbrush on a scrap piece of paper first so you can test how the paint will look before painting on the bookmark and if the paint looks okay you can start painting the leaves of the tree.
6. After creating the first row, you want to make each row longer as you get closer to bottom of the bookmark.
7. When you reach the bottom of the paper, you can go back and fill in large gaps but make sure you don't add to much because you want to see the sky behind the leaves.
8. Then you want to wait for it to dry.
10. When the moon is completely dry, you want to cover the tree with a scrap piece of paper.
11. Then you want to take a paintbrush with watered down white paint on it and flick the bristles with your finger towards the bookmark to create stars.
12. Wait for the paint to dry.
14. Then you want to take the folded part of the ribbon and pull it through hole on the front of the bookmark.
15. Then you want to take the ends and pull it through the folded part of the ribbon.
16. The last thing you can do is that you can trim the ends of the ribbon.
That's how you make this bookmark!
I love how the tree and the sky turned out. What do you think about this bookmark?
